Accelerating COVID-19 Vaccinations in Africa

The African continent has made impressive strides toward preventing the devastating impacts of the pandemic seen elsewhere, but recent months have brought massive upticks in case numbers. The COVID-19 vaccine continues to be out of reach for most Africans, as the region is far behind the rest of the world in obtaining and distributing the vaccine due to an array of challenges. What will it take to vaccinate the more than 1 billion people on the continent?

On Wednesday, September 15, the Brookings Africa Growth Initiative will host a discussion on approaches for accelerating COVID-19 vaccinations in Africa, including strategies for procuring doses, financing the rollout, addressing vaccine hesitancy, and reaching as many people as possible.
